Market For Domain Names Heats Up As BUQ.COM Attracts 41 Bids Within 24 Hours
Panama City, Panama (PRWeb) March 28, 2007 -- Web Management S.A., an Internet domain investment and development company located in the Republic of Panama, is auctioning off the domain name BUQ.com this week.
The company had acquired BUQ.com a few months ago with plans to hold the domain name as a long-term investment. Large numbers of unsolicited offers from around the world prompted the decision to auction off BUQ.com on Sedo.com, the world's largest domain marketplace.
Prices for short and memorable domain names such as BUQ.com have been increasing by 50% to 100% per year since the dot com crash in 2000.
"In 2001 it was possible to acquire three letter domains such as BUQ.com for as little as $200 each. Nowadays these same domains routinely sell for $10,000 wholesale, and even more among end users", explained Martin Milagros, Web Management's vice president of marketing, citing the recent $67,250 sale of IAB.com as an example.
After only one day, the BUQ.com auction had attracted 41 bids with the highest being $3,650. Web Management expects that amount to increase to a five-figure buying price by the time the auction concludes on April 3.
"BUQ.com has it all," said Milagros. "BUQ is pronounced the same way as 'buck' (dollar), it is short (3 letters only), and it is Web 2.0 compatible in that it is a highly memorable, brandable and 'cool' word creation that succinctly expresses the spirit of the times. BUQ.com could be used for a Web 2.0 online payment service to rival PayPal, or any other kind of financial website."
Domain name investing began in the early days of the Internet, when visionary individuals bought domains they thought would be in demand in the future, then sold them later, sometimes at a substantial profit.
